Garden of Eden

Every cook and gourmet knows the best meal starts with fresh ingredients.  We would add that fresh ocean and woodland Maine air is the best accompaniment.  Boy, have we got you covered!  Open the blue arbor door to our community garden to find yourself at the end of the rainbow with a cornucopia of fresh delights, from apples and asparagus to thyme and tomatillos.  The herbs, fruits, and veggies begging to see the inside of your kitchen are ready to leap into your basket.  Just help yourself.  (Weeding is optional but appreciated.)

Josh’s Ascent – Stairway to Heaven

We have a brand new stairway from Peachie Point down to the water.  Getting to the kayaks or walking along the water is made easier for everyone, especially anyone with modest mobility limitations.  These pictures were taken at almost high tide – perfect for kayaking!  At low tide you can walk the coastline.  Enjoy the scents, sounds, and delighs of true Downwast Maine.  Find your favoriate rock to sit on and watch the tides change the view before your eyes.  Rent a kayak and wander the bay.  Watch for the bald eagle family and be delighted when a harbor seal joins you on your journey.

The Rocky Shores of Maine

Enjoy new stairs from Peachie Point bluff down to the shore.  Sometimes, you just want to walk the bay or find that perfect rock to sit on and meditate.  Dogs love to race off into the water!  Feel the many types of seaweed and watch for critters within the rocks and grasses.  Maybe you’ll find some fox or coyote tracks in the mud.  You never know what surprises you will be greeted with!

Camp Store

Welcome to our unfolding new climate-controlled camp store where you will eventually find an assortment of supplies and provisions.  Our priority is to showcase Maine-made products wherever possible.  You will find apparel, local items to enjoy, RV supplies, repellent, equipment for nature-lovers, and more.

Sunrise

While you may wish to get tickets to see the sunrise at Cadillac Mountain, you could skip the time and cost.  We have arranged to have the sunrise come right to you at your campsite.  No cost, no travel.

Just step outside your RV with your morning beverage and see the brilliant sun earlier than anyone on Cadillac, since West Bay is further east.  Not that the trip up the mountain should be avoided, but it’s nice to know you have options.  Each morning is unique!

The many moods of West Bay Acadia…each morning is a joyful opportunity to celebrate a new beginning.  What would you like to be, to do?  This is your moment!

At sunrise, the sky paints herself with gold colors and joyfully dances to the music of a morning breeze.”

Bright Dark Skies

Look up and see a fantastic light show on a cloudless night, only visible in remote places like West Bay, far from artificial light and sound pollution.  See the Milky Way stretching from one horizon to the other.  Shooting stars, planets, constellations, and northern lights are some of the delights awaiting West Bay sky gazers and astrophotographers.  Bring your binoculars!  They are your best tool, allowing you to see a lot with the least time and effort.

When the weather cooperates and we have a guide on hand, you may see a few of thousands of celestial bodies.  That is possible with the “go-to” help of our advanced Celestron NexStar 8SE telescope.  Of course, this probably does mean staying awake past your normal bedtime.  Just doing that once at the optimum viewing time could be the experience of a lifetime.

West Bay Acadia Trails

As we go through the season we will be adding new trails.  For those wanting true hiking, we recommend going to Acadia Schoodic and one of the many trails in the Downeast area.

At the campground, we have two new mini trails for you to revel in the peaceful tranquility of a woodchip path through the woods (Hidden Trail) or gorge on wild Maine blueberries (Blueberry Hill Trail) on a more informal trail up a rustic ledge path.
